Procedure

1. Separate a single Results card and place on a flat, solid surface. Fill out the card with the appropriate information. Remove the tape cover, exposing the sticky surface. |

|
2. Open the foil pouch and remove each test strip by grasping the labeled end only. Do not touch the sample pad or results section. |
|
|
3. Affix the strips to the tape on the Results card (printed side up, arrows pointing left), in the designated locations. |
|
|
4. Using a new pipette for each test strip, draw up the patient sample into the stem portion of the pipette. Do not fill the bulb. |
|
|
5. Holding the pipette vertically, dispense 2 hanging drops of serum or plasma onto the sample pad of the test strip, as indicated by the arrows.
Notes:
-
Hanging drops are individual drops that fall freely from the pipette tip. They do not contact the strip prior to release from the pipette.
-
Sample flowing off the strip onto the Results card invalidates the test strip and results.
6. Allow each test strip to sit undisturbed for 5 minutes.

7. Read the results in the Results section 5 minutes after applying the sample. A blue line (Procedural Control Line) must appear on all samples, and a red line (Test Line) may or may not appear. Record the results on the Results card. |
Indications
HESKA Solo Step CH Batch Test Strips are a diagnostic tool which has been developed to assist veterinarians in detecting D. immitis infections in dogs and to help monitor the success of canine heartworm prevention and treatment programs.
Directions for Use
The test strips are for use in detecting antigens produced by D. immitis in serum or plasma from dogs.

- A sample of canine serum or plasma
- Test strip (provided)

Interpretation of Test Results
Procedural Control Line (C): Youmust see a blue line within 5 minutes for the test to be valid. This blue procedural control line indicates proper flow of the sample through the test strip. If the blue line does not develop, the test is invalid and should be repeated. Repeat the test with a new strip.
Test Line (T): Any visible red line within 5 minutes of sample addition indicates a positive result. Antigens from adult D. immitis are present.
No red line 5 minutes after sample addition indicates a negative test result. There are no antigens present.
Tips for Batch Testing
- Centrifuge samples, or let stand so that plasma or serum separates.
- Have sample tubes lined up, with caps removed, in the order that they are listed on the Results card.
- Have 1 pipette for each sample ready.
- Have a clock or timer(s) ready.
Sample Collection and Storage
Plasma: Collect an anticoagulated (EDTA, heparin or citrate) blood sample using standard clinical laboratory procedures. Separate plasma by centrifugation. Plasma samples may be stored refrigerated at 2° to 7° C (36° to 45° F) for up to 72 hours; for longer storage, freeze at or below -20° C (-4° F) in vials with airtight seals.
Serum: Collect and prepare serum samples using standard clinical laboratory procedures. Serum samples may be stored refrigerated at 2° to 7° C (36° to 45° F) for up to 72 hours; for longer storage, freeze at or below -20° C (-4° F) in vials with airtight seals.
Precautions
- Do not expose test strips to direct sunlight.
- Do not use a test strip or pipette more than once.
- All test strips must be used within 30 minutes after opening the foil pouch.
- Discard any unused test strips.
- Do not touch the sample pad or results section.
- Sample flowing off the strip onto the Results card invalidates the test strip and results.
Storage and Stability
- Store the test kit at room temperature (15° to 30° C [59° to 86° F]).
